Navy diver’s body brought home

JOHOR BARU: The body of Royal Malaysian Navy diver Leading Seaman 1 Arman San Hermansa (pic, below), who tragically died during a salvage operation for the sunken KD Pendekar, has been claimed by his wife.

Norazliana Bakri, 25, was among the many mourners, including Navy officers and personnel, who gathered at the Hospital Sultan Ismail’s forensics department from around 8am yesterday.

At about 12.50pm, a Navy vehicle departed from the hospital with LK 1 Arman San’s remains.

His coffin was brought to the Senai International Airport to be flown to the Tawau Airport on board a Royal Malaysian Air Force aircraft.

The 28-year-old diver will be laid to rest in his hometown of Lahad Datu, Sabah.

In a Facebook post, Norazliana said the authorities are still investigating the matter and requested the public to stop speculating about her husband’s death.

She also expressed hope that no one would spread unverified information about her husband’s death and appealed for the public’s understanding of her situation.

LK 1 Arman San, who served at the Navy’s Diving and Mine Warfare headquarters, died while attempting to recover the wreckage of KD Pendekar, which sank in the waters off Tanjung Penyusop, Pengarang in Kota Tinggi on Aug 25.

The fast attack craft sank after springing a leak, believed to have been caused by hitting an underwater object.

Swift action by the maritime community ensured the rescue of all 39 crew members before the ship was completely submerged.
