Sandakan woman suffers seizure, falls into sea through hole in house floor

KOTA KINABALU: A woman suffered a seizure and fell into the sea through a hole in the floor of her home at a water village in Sabah’s east coast Sandakan district on Thursday (Aug 22).

The incident took place at the village off Jalan Buli, Sim-Sim, at about 10am Thursday.

A Fire and Rescue Department spokesman said they were alerted to the matter at 10.24am, adding that the fire team arrived at the location five minutes later.

“According to a witness, the 34-year-old woman had fallen through a hole in the floor into the sea.

“But family members had managed to retrieve her from the water before we arrived,” he said.

The fire team, he added, then carried the woman to land, helped by other villagers.

“The woman was given initial treatment by our Emergency Medical Response Services (EMRS) unit before being handed over to a Health Ministry ambulance to be sent for further treatment at the hospital,” the spokesman said.

The operation subsequently ended at 10.55am, he added.
