Extend Puteri Umno membership age to 40, says wing's chief

KUALA LUMPUR: Puteri Umno has proposed that the age limit for membership in the party wing be extended to 40, says its chief Datuk Nurul Amal Mohd Fauzi.

She said that there have been calls for this, adding that this will be discussed during the wing's general assembly on Thursday (Aug 22).

“Puteri has proposed this over the years. Some also say it’s not right to extend the age, some have said it should be shortened. Let us debate this,” she said to loud cheers of approval from the crowd of delegates here on Thursday.

The current age limit for Puteri Umno membership is 35.

Nurul Amal then said efforts to transform Umno must be hastened or the party will risk living in its own shadow.

“Our strategies are predictable and the party must change its approach by preparing a new strategic action plan,” she said.

She said reforms within Umno are constantly discussed and repeated during each assembly, questioning whether it had achieved this objective.

“Have we been reformed? Is it still being studied? Or is it just a promise and rhetoric? Together with Umno, we have grown and took shelter in this family and home," said Nurul Amal.

“This house once stood strong and was looked upon highly but with time, we may forget that it still needs work. The house has withstood various challenges and we need to take heed and strengthen it,” she added.
