Youth arrested for rape in Simpang Pulai

IPOH: An 18-year-old youth has been arrested by the police for allegedly raping a 16-year-old pupil at a house in Simpang Pulai here.

Perak police chief Comm Datuk Azizi Mat Aris said the male teenager was arrested on July 31 at about 11.30pm, after a report was lodged by the girl earlier at about 10.25pm.

"The victim has received treatment and checked at the Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital.

"A check on the teenager's background found one previous crime case," he said in a statement on Wednesday (Aug 7).

Comm Azizi said the Magistrate Court here had issued an order to remand the teenager for five days from Aug 1 to 5.

"The remand was extended until Aug 9 to facilitate the investigations under Section 376 of the Penal Code for rape.

"The investigating officer is in the process of completing the investigation papers and would refer it to the state public prosecutor's office with the recommendation to press charges," he added.
