MACC arrests five in RM15.3mil tanker cleaning contract graft investigation

PUTRAJAYA: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has arrested five individuals suspected of being involved in bribery to secure a RM15.3mil oil tanker cleaning contract three years ago.

A source told Malay language daily Sinar Harian that the arrested individuals include a manager from an oil and gas subsidiary, two former employees of the company, and two contractors. They were detained at the MACC headquarters in Putrajaya on Monday (Aug 5).

"They were arrested after giving their statements at around 8pm," the source told Sinar Harian on Tuesday (Aug 6).

Three individuals have been remanded for five days, while two others have been remanded for three days to investigate bribery related to the RM15.3mil tanker cleaning contract.

"The detainees are aged between 30 and 63 years old," the source said.

Magistrate Irza Zulaikha Rohanuddin approved the remand of the manager and the two former employees for five days, while the two contractors were remanded for three days starting Tuesday.

Meanwhile, MACC Special Operations Division senior director Datuk Azmi Kamaruzaman confirmed the arrests when contacted.

The case is being investigated under Section 16 of the MACC Act 2009.
