17-year old killed in motorcycle crash

JERTIH: A 17-year-old boy was killed when the motorcycle he was riding hit another motorcycle in Kampung Telaga Nibong, Hulu Besut near here on Saturday (March 28).

Besut OCPD Supt Mohd Rozaime Ab Rahim said Muhammad Haziq Azman, a chicken sales assistant, died at the scene while the other motorcyclist suffered minor injuries in the 11.30am incident.

"Preliminary investigations revealed that the other motorcyclist, 35, was riding a Honda EX5 from Kampung Gong Nering to Kampung Telaga Nibong.

“He had slowed down and signalled to turn left at a T junction. At the same time, the victim, on a Honda Wave 125, tried to overtake the other rider,” he said in a statement today.

The victim’s bike grazed the Honda EX5 as he was overtaking, causing him to lose control, skid and hit a pipe by the roadside.

Supt Rozaime said the body has been sent to Besut Hospital’s forensics unit for an autopsy and the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1997.

Those with information on the incident are urged to come forward and assist with investigations. – Bernama
