Foreign man nabbed for recording voyeuristic videos in mall toilet

PETALING JAYA: Police have arrested a foreign man for allegedly recording a video of another man inside a public toilet at a shopping mall in Bukit Jalil.

Cheras OCPD Asst Comm Mohd Rosdi Daud said the suspect, a man in his mid-20s from China, was detained at about 1.28pm on Thursday (March 26) following a report lodged by the victim, a local man.

“The incident occurred earlier at about 11am when the complainant was using a men’s toilet on the fourth floor of the shopping mall.

“He realised he was being recorded by an individual from the adjacent cubicle using a mobile phone,” ACP Mohd Rosdi said in a statement on Saturday (March 28).

Police also seized a mobile phone belonging to the suspect during the arrest.

“Initial checks on the device revealed several obscene videos stored in the gallery,” he added.

He said the case is being investigated under Section 509 of the Penal Code for insulting the modesty of a person, and Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 for not possessing valid travel documents.

“The suspect has admitted to his involvement in the incident and has been remanded for 14 days under the Immigration Act from March 27 to April 9,” he said.

Police are conducting further investigations into the case.
