Perak targets 35 gold medals at 21st Sukma

IPOH: Perak is targeting least 35 gold medals at the 21st Malaysia Games (Sukma) in line with the state's “Silver to Gold” slogan, says Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad.

He says high hopes are placed especially in judo, silat, kabaddi, silambam, muay thai, cricket and hockey.

Saarani said that although Perak ranked eighth in the last Sukma games, the state's athletes will do their best this time.

“This target is not impossible. No mountain is too high for those who dream of being at the top,” he said when handing over the state flag to the Perak contingent at on Sunday (Aug 4).

Saarani added that as a sign of appreciation, the state government would provide incentives to athletes who contributed medals.

“Individual gold winners will receive RM5,000, silver RM3,000, and bronze RM1,000. For the team category, RM2,500 is provided for gold medals, RM1,500 for silver, and RM500 for bronze," said Saarani.

“The coaches and managers will also receive incentives based on the achievements of the athletes under their tutelage,” he added.

Saarani said that success is not just measured by medals, but also by fighting spirit, integrity, and the courage to rise after falling.

“Whatever happens in Sarawak, be proud that you gave your best for Perak,” he added.
