KOTA KINABALU: The Sandakan Municipal Council (SMC) inked a major concession agreement on waste management with Ignis SG (Sabah) Sdn Bhd on Monday (July 22).

The signatories of this agreement envisioned this milestone event as a pivotal step towards innovative waste management solutions in Sabah.

The initiative involves the deployment of a new-patented Malaysian technology aimed at reducing waste volume, contributing to recycling efforts, and promoting sustainable environmental practices.

The 3R (reduce, reuse, recycle) rehabilitation technology will be implemented at MPS' landfill, marking a significant advancement in waste management infrastructure.

Deputy Chief Minister II cum state Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Seri Dr Joachim Gunsalam witnessed the signing at Wisma Innoprise here.

The agreement was signed by Ignis SG (Sabah) executive chairman Alan Tan Yean Keat while MPS president Henry Idol represented the council.

Idol said MPS was committed to enhancing its waste management infrastructure.

“This agreement with Ignis SG (Sabah) is a testament to our dedication to sustainability and environmental responsibility.
