State Umno supports Selangor Sultan's call to uphold Rukun Negara

PETALING JAYA: Umno Selangor has expressed support for the statement issued by the Sultan of Selangor urging the public to uphold the principles of the Rukun Negara and respect the Royal Institution.

Its information chief, Datuk Dr Mohd Zaidi Md Zain, said the ruler’s call should serve as guidance for all parties in preserving harmony and unity in the state.

“Umno Selangor extends its utmost appreciation for the official statement and call by the Sultan of Selangor urging all Malaysians to appreciate the principles of the Rukun Negara and uphold proper conduct and respect towards the Royal Institution,” he said in a statement on Tuesday (May 19).

Mohd Zaidi said the Sultan’s reminder was not directed solely at certain individuals but should instead be embraced collectively to ensure continued stability and unity.

He added that the Rukun Negara was formed following a difficult chapter in the nation’s history and remained the foundation of national unity.

“As such, the principles contained within it must not be taken lightly or turned into material for narrow political disputes,” he said.

Mohd Zaidi also said differences of opinion in a democracy should be expressed in a civil and respectful manner while honouring the foundations of nationhood, including the sovereignty of the Royal Institution.

He also called on Malaysians, especially the younger generation, to embrace the spirit of the Rukun Negara, uphold decorum and strengthen unity for the future of the state and country.
