MORE than 200 people took part in a charity treasure hunt in support of SJK (T) Ladang Coalfields in Selangor, Malaysia Nanban reported.

The hunt began at the school in Ijok and ended in Kuala Selangor with 55 teams chasing clues for the top prize.

RM20,000 was raised for the school through the event organised jointly by its Parent-Teacher Association and the Tamilneri Kazhagam of Malaysia.

PTA chairman Mageswaran said this year’s event was held in honour of Kazhagam’s late senior member P. Veeran.

Kazhagam chairman T. Thirumavalavan said they intend to hold a treasure hunt every year to benefit Tamil schools in need.

An all-women team won first place and took home RM1,500.

> MIC deputy president Datuk Seri M. Saravanan has been honoured with a special award at the Kamban Vizha in London, the daily also reported.

The literary festival is held annually as a tribute to the 13th-century Tamil poet Kambar whose most well-known work is the Tamil version of the Indian epic Ramayana.

Saravanan received the Senthamizh Selvar (Son of Tamil) award.
