Muar pasar malam trader charged with raping 14-year-old

MUAR: A pasar malam trader has been charged at the Sessions Court here on Sunday (July 14) with raping and sexually assaulting a 14-year-old disabled student.

Lim Khim Tai, 47, was slapped with 11 charges of raping and committing sexual assault on the intellectually disabled girl from March 8 to May 24.

He was charged with four counts of rape and seven counts of sexually assaulting the victim, in the bedroom of a house on Jalan Temenggong Ahmad here.

Lim pleaded not guilty to all charges before Sessions Court Judge Abu Bakar Manat.

The rape charges were framed under Section 376(2)(k) of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum jail term of 30 years and whipping if convicted.

The sexual assault charges were framed under Section 14(a), Section 14(b) and Section 14(d) of the Sexual Offences against Children Act 2017, which carries a maximum jail term of 20 years and whipping upon conviction.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Danial Munir did not offer bail for the accused.

"(We are) worried that the accused, who is a friend of the victim's father, will harass her as the girl is currently five months pregnant," he said.

The court did not allow bail for the accused, who is married, and set Sept 18 for next mention and submission of documents.

The court also told Lim to hire a lawyer.
