Veteran film director Mansor Puteh dies in accident


KUALA LUMPUR: Film director and critic Mansor Puteh was killed following an accident at Jalan Alam Damai.

Kuala Lumpur Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department (JSPT) chief Asst Comm Sarifudin Mohd Salleh said the accident occurred at about 10.10am on Sunday (July 7).

"We believe the 71-year-old victim lost control of his vehicle before hitting a road divider. He suffered a severe head injury and died at the scene of the accident," he said in a statement on Sunday.

The case is classified under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

Mansor previously directed the movie "Seman" in 1988 and developed a 48-minute documentary on Tunku Abdul Rahman titled "Residency Years".

Mansor, who graduated from Columbia University in New York, was also known for being outspoken in his critiques of local films and the entertainment industry.
