Sg Bakap Polls: Determined voter arrives in ambulance

NIBONG TEBAL: Rosnah Ramli, 50, demonstrated her determination to fulfil her duty as a voter in Saturday's Sungai Bakap by-election by arriving at the polling station in an ambulance.

Rosnah, a stroke patient confined to a wheelchair, was transported by the non-governmental organisation Yayasan Amal Malaysia to Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Sungai Duri around 11am.

Despite suffering a stroke three years ago that left her unable to walk, she was determined to fulfil her duty.

"One of my children contacted the foundation a week ago to arrange my transport to the polling centre. This is my first experience voting in an ambulance," she told reporters.

According to the Election Commission data, the polling centre has nine streams catering to 5,745 registered voters.

It reported that a total of 39,151 voters are eligible to vote on Saturday (July 6), with nine polling stations and 65 voting streams open.

The Sungai Bakap by-election is a one-on-one contest between Pakatan Harapan candidate Joohari and Perikatan Nasional candidate Abidin, following the death of the incumbent Nor Zamri Latiff on May 24 due to stomach inflammation. - Bernama
