Voter turnout at 51.32% for Sungai Bakap by-election


NIBONG TEBAL: Voter turnout for the Sungai Bakap by-election is at 51.32% as of 3pm on Saturday (July 6).

According to the Election Commission, a total of 39,151 people are eligible to vote in the by-election.

There is no early voting for Sungai Bakap, as all 57 police personnel in the constituency have registered as postal voters.

The by-election is a straight fight between Pakatan Harapan's Dr Joohari Ariffin and Perikatan Nasional's Abidin Ismail.

It is being held following the death of incumbent Nor Zamri Latiff on May 24 due to stomach inflammation.

The Sungai Bakap state poll is the eighth by-election since GE15. Previous by-elections were for the Kuala Terengganu parliamentary seat in Terengganu, the Simpang Jeram state seat and the Pulai parliamentary seat in Johor, the Pelangai state seat in Pahang, the Jepak state seat in Sarawak, the Kemaman parliamentary seat in Terengganu, and the Kuala Kubu Baharu state seat in Selangor.
