Man jailed for possessing fireworks in Sibu


SIBU: A man has been sentenced to six months in prison by the magistrate's court on Friday (June 27) for possessing two coconut-shaped fireworks without permission.

The accused, Albert Wong Mee Leong, 39, was ordered by the court to serve the prison sentence from the date of his arrest on March 7.

Wong was charged under Section 8 of the Explosives Act 1957 for the offence, which was committed at about 12pm on March 10 at a house in Jalan Ek Dee.

The section carries a prison sentence of up to seven years or a fine of up to RM10,000, or both, if convicted.

Based on the facts of the case, the police conducted a raid on the house during which they found the fireworks.
