KOTA KINABALU: Six schools remained closed on Tuesday (July 2) in flood hit Penampang and Tuaran districts in Sabah, says state Education Department director Datuk Raisin Saidin.
He said the schools were closed to facilitate clean-up works after floods hit Sabah's west coast districts on Sunday.
On Monday (July 1), 10 schools involving 5,000 students were closed due to the floods.
Raisin said the schools that remained closed were SMK Saint Michael, SK St Theresa Inobong and SK Kibabaig, all in Penampang.
The other schools were SK Kauluan, SK Bawang and SK Lingga Baru in Tuaran.
A total of 2,659 students and 194 teachers were affected by the closure, he added.
Moderate to heavy rains continue to be experienced over west coast Sabah with floodwaters in some areas receding while many areas remain cut off due to floodwaters or land slips.
The number of flood evacuees continued to rise overnight with 464 people from 140 families placed at four relief centres in Penampang, Putatan, Tuaran and Tamparuli as of 6am today.
