Dr Wee slams suggestion to 'move' MPs for missing Bill vote

PETALING JAYA: MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong (pic) has hit out at a Pakatan Harapan leader for suggesting that MCA MPs be seated with the Opposition bloc in Parliament.

This comes after DAP’s Kepong MP Lim Lip Eng made the suggestion when debating the Mavcom (Dissolution) Bill 2024 during Wednesday’s (June 26) session.

Dr Wee questioned why the two MCA MPs were singled out when a total of 66 MPs were not present during the voice vote on the Bill.

“Please take a look at these screenshots from yesterday’s Parliament livestream.

“Does the Kepong MP from DAP intend to say that these individuals are also boycotting the bill tabled by the government?” said Dr Wee in reference to the absence of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, Deputy Prime Ministers Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof, and other senior Pakatan Harapan leaders.

“A total of 66 MPs were not present so why single out only the MCA MPs?” said Dr Wee in a Facebook post on Thursday (July 27).

The Ayer Hitam MP also questioned if the senior government leaders who did not vote on Wednesday should be moved.

“YB Kepong, think rationally before you speak,” he said.

When debating on the Bill, DAP’s Lim proposed for the two MCA MPs - Dr Wee and Datuk Seri Wee Jeck Seng - to sit with the Opposition, with Lim claiming the duo were intentionally absent from the hall during the vote.
