Johor PN declares it will contest all state seats, still waiting for new chairman to be named

ISKANDAR PUTERI: Johor Perikatan Nasional is still awaiting a decision from the coalition’s top leadership on the appointment of a new state chairman.

Johor Bersatu chief Datuk Dr Sahruddin Jamal said the coalition is ready to face the polls at any time and is positioning itself as a full alternative to the ruling blocs.

"Perikatan will contest all 56 state seats. The list of candidates will be decided by the central leadership," he told a press conference on the sidelines of the state assembly here on Monday (May 4).

"So far, Bersatu president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin has submitted a name (for state chief), but it has yet to be finalised. We are waiting for the announcement."

Dr Sahruddin, who is also Bukit Kepong assemblyman, said the nomination process for candidates will be handled centrally to ensure consistency in the coalition’s electoral strategy.

His comments signal Perikatan’s intention to mount a full-scale contest in Johor, positioning itself as a challenger across all constituencies.

Dr Sahruddin said the coalition is aiming to provide voters with a clear alternative choice in the state election, which can be called at any time.

In an unrelated matter, he raised concerns over the reduction in the Budi95 fuel subsidy quota, which was cut from 300 litres to 200 litres per eligible individual per month in April.

Dr Sahruddin said the move was untimely given rising living costs, particularly fuel prices, and urged the government to reconsider the decision.

"The government should prioritise the welfare of the people. Assistance should be increased, not reduced," he said.
