New daily express train from KL to Ipoh to kick off in August, says KTM COO

IPOH: There will be a new daily express train service between Kuala Lumpur and Ipoh that only takes about two hours.

Keretapi Tanah Melayu Bhd chief operations officer Mohd Zain Mat Taha said the new service will start in August this year.

"The current trip between Kuala Lumpur and Ipoh takes about three hours.

"We will have a service that will only take two hours," he said in a press conference here at the Ipoh railway station here on Wednesday (June 26).

He had said this after the launch of a promotional event to promote Ipoh's products and tourist destinations by city mayor Datuk Rumaizi Baharin.

"There are no additional trips but we are waiting for new train sets," he said, adding that the number of trips between Kuala Lumpur and Ipoh remains at 32.

Mohd Zain said the shortened travelling time was possible due to the improvement to the Klang Valley Double-Tracking Project (KVDT) that was being completed in stages.

"The travelling time from KL to Butterworth or Padang Besar has also been shortened by about 45mins," he added.
