Civil servants to know new, higher salaries by October, says Anwar

PUTRAJAYA: The rates for civil servant's salary increase, which will be implemented from December this year, will be announced before Budget 2025 is tabled in October, says Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

The Prime Minister said it has been a long time since the last salary adjustment for civil servants.

"While we expect them (civil servants) to work harder, there has been no review of salary adjustment and fair reward for them for at least 10 years.

"It is our responsibility to give what is possible and reasonable to civil servants.

"I will announce (the rates) before the national budget is tabled this year," Anwar said in his speech at the Prime Minister's Department Excellent Service Award 2023 ceremony here on Wednesday (June 26).

The review of the Public Service Remuneration System (SSPA) was undertaken by the Unity Government last year after the last review of the salary scheme was conducted in 2013.

Following the completion of the review, on May 1 this year, Anwar announced that civil servants will enjoy a salary hike of more than 13% starting December this year, the highest increase in the nation's history.
