Preacher under investigation for alleged secret conversion instruction video

PETALING JAYA: Preacher Firdaus Wong is under police investigation after a viral video allegedly showed him giving a man instructions on how to handle minors wishing to convert to Islam in secret.

The investigation was launched following a report lodged by activist Arun Dorasamy at the Petaling Jaya police headquarters.

When contacted, Petaling Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Shahrulnizam Jaa'far said that investigations were being conducted under Section 298 and Section 505(c) of the Penal Code for intentionally wounding the religious feelings of others and for uttering the words with intent to incite a class or community of persons.

The case is also being investigated under the Communications and Multimedia Act.

Dorasamy's lawyers Rajesh Nagarajen and Sachpreetaj Singh said several police reports were lodged against the preacher, including one by their client.

“We are pleased to inform the public that the police have finally opened an investigation paper against Firdaus under Section 505(c) of the Penal Code.

“We hope that justice will be served and Firdaus will be charged and convicted for his crimes against society.”

A video that allegedly showed the preacher responding to a question on the matter had been uploaded on his YouTube page earlier in the month.
