Sg Bakap polls: Voters need representative who can lead towards holistic improvement, says Fadhlina

NIBONG TEBAL: Voters in Sungai Bakap need a quality leader who can lead the constituency towards holistic improvement, including infrastructure development, economic growth, social cohesion, religious harmony, unity, and education, says Fadhlina Sidek.

The PKR women's wing chief said the candidate put forward by the unity government, Dr Joohari Ariffin, is an educator with extensive knowledge and leadership experience.

"He is a native of Sungai Bakap and certainly understands the heartbeat of the local community," she said.

The Education Minister said the mood among the people in Sungai Bakap was positive and they desired change.

She said there is a good opportunity for the ruling coalition candidate to wrest the state seat from the Opposition.

She said it was crucial to vote the unity government candidate to ensure the development agenda can proceed smoothly.

The Sungai Bakap state seat fell vacant following the death of incumbent Nor Zamri Latiff on May 24.

Based on Election Commission records from the last state election, the Sungai Bakap constituency has 38,409 voters.

Malays (59.36%) make up the majority of voters, followed by Chinese (22.54%), Indians (17.39%) and others (0.71%).

Nor Zamri secured 15,433 votes in the August 2023 state election, defeating Pakatan Harapan's Nurhidayah Che Rose.

The Election Commission on Thursday (June 6) said that polling is on July 6, with Nomination Day on June 22.
