SERDANG: A modified car boot and electronic lock helped a drug trafficker evade the eyes of the law but police finally tracked him down after a joint raid here.

The car, alongside drugs worth an estimated RM13.5mil, were seized after a joint drug operation between Bukit Aman and Kelantan Narcotics Crime Investigation Department (NCID).

A rented house in Puchong was raided around noon on Monday, leading to the arrest of a 36-year-old man.

At a press conference yesterday at the Serdang police headquarters, NCID director Comm Datuk Khaw Kok Chin said the modified car was found during the raid.

“A keycard is needed to open the back compartment and it can only be opened when the car is started,” he said, adding that the compartment was further obscured by “speakers” at the trunk.

Investigations showed that about 80kg of drugs could be inserted in the modified compartment.

The suspect is believed to had been paid around RM6,000 per trip.

It is also believed that the drugs were meant for distribution within the Klang Valley market.

Comm Khaw said about 73kg of ketamine and 309kg of syabu with an estimated value of RM13.5mil were seized.

“It is estimated that the drugs could have been used by 1.8 million addicts,” he said.

He said that police were also tracking other syndicate members.

“We are also urging the house owner to come forward to assist in investigations,” Comm Khaw said.

The suspect has been remanded until June 24 to assist in investigation.
