Penang cops bust drug racket, seize ganja worth RM309,000


GEORGE TOWN: A drug syndicate has been busted with the arrest of a 46-year-old man here and the seizure of ganja worth RM309,000.

Penang police chief Comm Datuk Hamzah Ahmad the suspect was apprehended on Friday (June 14) by a narcotics team following a tip-off.

"We discovered two compressed blocks believed to be marijuana, weighing close to 2kg, on his motorcycle," Comm Hamzah told the press on Tuesday (June 18).

"He later led us to his car nearby where a similar substance weighing 97.9kg was recovered."

Comm Hamzah added that a car registered to the suspect's sibling was also seized under the Dangerous Drugs (Forfeiture of Property) Act 1988.
