Two TNB workers injured in substation fire that triggered JB power outage

JOHOR BARU: Two Tenaga Nasional Bhd (TNB) employees were injured following a fire at the Kangkar Tebrau main intake substation here on Friday (Oct 16), which also triggered a major power outage affecting thousands of residents.

TNB confirmed in a statement on Saturday (Oct 17) that both personnel are currently in stable condition and undergoing further medical treatment at Sultan Ismail Hospital (HSI).

Their families have been notified and are currently with them at the hospital.

The 6.03pm substation fire caused widespread electricity disruptions across several major townships and housing estates, including Bandar Dato Onn, Taman Daya, Kempas, Bandar Ulu Tiram, Desa Tebrau, and Johor Jaya.

Technical teams were deployed to restore power in stages, with full electricity supply successfully restored to all affected areas within 77 minutes.

TNB stated that the cause of the fire remains under investigation in collaboration with relevant authorities, including the Fire and Rescue Department, and pledged its full cooperation for a thorough probe.

The utility company also apologised to all affected customers for the inconvenience caused by the disruption.
