Cops record statements in investigation into Gombak food poisoning

GOMBAK: The police have recorded statements from eight people as their probe into the food poisoning that killed two continues.

In a statement on Wednesday (June 12), Gombak OCPD Asst Comm Noor Ariffin Mohamad Nasir said that the police have recorded statements from family members and the food supplier involved.

He said the statements were recorded on Monday (June 10) and Tuesday (June 11) and added that other victims that had suffered food poisoning are also being identified.

ACP Noor Ariffin said that the police are in the midst of recording the statement of those directly involved in the food preparation and the event organisers.

A food poisoning incident led to two deaths and 82 people falling ill in Gombak and is believed to have originated from a meal of fried bihun and fried eggs that was served at a school event, according to the Selangor Health Department.

State health director Dr Ummi Kalthom Shamsudin previously said that the meal was catered by an external party and that out of the 247 people that ate the meal, 82 people (33%) exhibited symptoms.
