Cops bust ring promoting sexual services, content via social media

KAJANG: Three men and two women were detained in Bandar Bukit Mahkota here for allegedly promoting sexual services, selling pornographic videos and sexual stimulants on social media sites.

The suspects, aged between 17 and 26, were detained at about 4pm on Thursday (June 6) by Bukit Aman Anti-vice, gambling and secret societies division (D7) in an operation codenamed "Ops E-Noda".

Bukit Aman D7 principal assistant director Senior Asst Comm Mohamad Farouk Eshak said the syndicate was suspected of promoting sexual services as well as selling recordings of sexual acts and sexual stimulants on social media.

"Checks on its TikTok account revealed the syndicate has 226,000 active followers.

"Their modus operandi is to entice people to subscribe to their Telegram channel for a fee of between RM450 and RM550 per customer," he said when contacted on Saturday (June 8).

SAC Mohamad Farouk said the syndicate also used WhatsApp to contact customers to arrange meetings for payments to be made if customers were interested in getting sexual services.

"Our investigation revealed that the syndicate could rake in up to RM20,000 a month through their activities on social media.

"All those detained were brought to Kajang district police headquarters for further action," he said.

The case is being investigated under Section 372(1)(e) and Section 292(a) of the Penal Code, Section 233 of the Communication and Multimedia Act 1998 and Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act, he added.
