Cops hunt for three men over fuel station break-in, looting

KOTA KINABALU: Three men smashed the glass wall of a fuel station here before getting away with loot including cash and cigarettes in Sabah’s interior Keningau district early Monday.

The 12:30am break-in occurred in Sook town when the station was closed and was recorded on a closed circuit television (CCTV) camera.

Keningau police chief Supt Yampil Anak Garai said the station manager alerted them of the incident later in the morning.

From the CCTV recording, he said, the suspects could be seen arriving in a car.

“The suspects were wearing jackets, long trousers and gloves while their faces were covered,” he said when contacted on Monday (June 3).

“However, our checks on the registration plate number found that it was falsified as it was registered under a different vehicle,” he added.

Supt Yampil said the suspects had used slingshots and a crowbar during the crime.

“One of the suspects shot at the glass wall until it shattered before the other two entered the station to steal.

"Efforts are underway to locate the trio,” he said, adding the case is being investigated under Section 457 of the Penal Code for breaking into the station to commit a burglary.

It is understood that besides cash and cigarettes, the suspects also made off with a mobile phone, with the total losses amounting to some RM4,500.
