MetMalaysia issues tropical depression advisory


KOTA KINABALU: The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) on Friday (May 31) issued a tropical depression advisory detected at a latitude 19.0 north and longitude 112.2 east, approximately 235km northeast of Hainan, China.

MetMalaysia’s National Weather and Geophysics Operations Centre, in a statement at 9.20am, said the storm is moving northward at three km per hour (km/h) with a maximum wind speed of 56 km/h.

According to the statement, its distance from the nearest city is approximately 1,437km northwest of Kudat, Sabah.

It added that the tropical depression poses no significant impact on Malaysia thus far. - Bernama
