Woman gets four years’ jail for cheating victims of RM1mil in housing scam


SIBU: A 39-year-old woman has been sentenced to four years in prison by the Magistrate's Court on Wednesday (May 29) after she pleaded guilty to 40 counts of fraud, resulting in losses amounting to RM1.011mil.

Magistrate Oon Kork Chern had sentenced the accused Suhana Abdullah to one year in jail for each charge.

However, the court ordered the jail sentences for the first three charges to run consecutively, while the sentences for the remaining 37 charges would run concurrently.

That means Suhana is to serve four years’ in prison.

The accused was charged under Section 420 of the Penal Code for the offences.

The Section carries a prison sentence of not less than one year and not more than 10 years as well as whipping and can also be fined.

Based on the charges, Suhana is accused of defrauding 37 victims by offering them non-existent low-cost houses between 2019 and 2022 in different places.

The case was prosecuted by Deputy Public Prosecutor Mohamad Amirul Hakim Mohamad Zamri, while the accused was represented by Reena Chong.
