Air quality checks made at school and housing area after JB factory blast

JOHOR BARU: The Johor Environment Department has conducted air quality checks around the Taman Dato Yunus Sulaiman following a fire at a factory on Monday (May 27) night.

State health and environment committee chairman Ling Tian Soon said the checks were done at a housing area and school nearby.

“The department conducted checks around Jalan Bahagia 1, some 300m from the scene, and in front of SJK (C) Ping Ming, some 500m away.

“Some solvent and paint odour was detected around the housing area, but the reading was satisfactory and did not exceed the Acute Exposure Level Guidelines (AELG) reading.

“No odour was detected near the school,” he said, adding that the checks were conducted on Tuesday (May 28) morning.

As firemen were battling the fire, small explosions were heard before a major blast occurred at the factory at around 11pm on Monday.
