SPM 2023: Johor gets best average grade score in five years

JOHOR BARU: Johor recorded 4.48 in its state average grade (GPN) achievement for the 2023 Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) examinations, the best within the last five years.

State Education Department director Mohd Hanafi Samad said Johor's achievement was higher than the national GPN, which stands at 4.60. (A lower GPN score indicates better performance.)

“(The score of) 4.48 is an improvement from the 4.59 we achieved in the 2022 SPM.

“Based on the analysis of SPM results from 2019 to 2022, this achievement is the best in five years.

"Johor's GPN has been able to beat the national GPN five years in a row,” he told a press conference to announce the examination results at the department's headquarters here on Monday (May 27).

He added that a total of 1,247 candidates in Johor obtained excellent SPM results with 20 scoring A+ in all subjects.

He said a total of 42,221 candidates sat for the examination, with 38,760 receiving certificates.

"A total of 133 candidates with special educational needs also sat for the SPM with two getting 9As, one 8As, and two 7As," he added.
