PETALING JAYA: Many Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) 2023 candidates are planning to check their results online rather than collect the result slips from their schools.

Nittila Thamothran, 18, said she is going to view her results online with her family today before going to school to physically collect her result slip.

“I am planning to collect it when school reopens (on June 3), so I’d be able to meet my ex-teachers,” she said when contacted.

“I’m excited to find out how I did, but at the same time, it’s scary, too,” said the former SMK Gunung Rapat, Perak, student.

As for Chong Pohyi, she said she will be checking her results online today but not because she does not want to go to school.

“My school informed us that everyone needs to check their results online as the school will not be opened that day,” said the 18-year-old from Johor.

However, Chong added she would prefer to collect her results in-person.

“I wish to go to school to collect the results so that I can celebrate with my teachers who taught me for two years,” she said.

Another student who is unable to physically collect his results is Adam Matthew Rajakaran, 18.

“I have classes at college and I do not want to skip them especially when I can check and print the result slip via online,” he said.

As for celebrating with his friends, Adam Matthew said they have already made plans to meet up during the weekend to celebrate their “graduation” from secondary school.

Shasmeen Amirah Kamaruddin, 18, from SMK Assunta, Petaling Jaya, said she plans to check her results online first before going to the school to collect the slip.

“I think many of us (candidates) are going to do this,” she said, adding that she knows most schools are simplifying the procedure this year which is usually accompanied with an awards ceremony.

“I will go anyway, because I would like to meet my teachers and everyone else at the school since it’s been a while I last went back,” she added.

Candidates can start viewing or collecting their results from 10am today.

According to the Malaysian Examination Board, candidates from both private and public schools can obtain their results via text message, online or physical collection.

To obtain a summary of their results, candidates can use mySMS by typing SPM (space) MyKad number (space) index number, and send to 15888.

The board also specified that any ceremony to celebrate the SPM candidates should be conducted after the 2024/2025 academic session term during school holidays.

A total of 395,870 candidates sat for SPM 2023 at 3,340 exam centres nationwide.
