SIBU: Projects that have been approved for rural areas in Sarawak but have not been implemented will be looked into urgently, says Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
"As long as I am the Rural and Regional Development Minister, I am committed to bring this to the Federal Government and the Sarawak state leadership to immediately carry out infrastructure projects that have been approved," the Deputy Prime Minister said at the Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) state-level pre-Gawai Charity Dinner 2024 on Saturday (May 18) night.
Ahmad Zahid stressed that infrastructure projects which also include basic amenities and the repair and rebuilding of longhouses damaged by fire and floods were of paramount importance for the rural populace in the state.
Acknowledging that there should not be any further delays in their implementation, he assured that he would, in his capacity as the Rural and Regional Development Minister, ensure that they are implemented.
Separately, he said that with political stability, Sarawak could now experience massive development.
"We know that Sarawak has the most stable political scenario that enables development to happen. There is no state in the country that is using hydrogen technology, or is promoting the use of EV (electric vehicles), robotics and other technologies more than Sarawak.
"I say this not to differentiate Sarawak from the other states but I want to say with the current political stability, Sarawak, under the leadership of Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Openg, is surging forward," he added.
Sarawak, he said, is also taking TVET (Technical and Vocational Education and Training) as a top priority.
The Deputy prime Minister also commended National Unity Minister Datuk Seri Aaron Ago Dagang for not only carrying out projects that enhance unity and harmony in Sarawak but throughout the country.
Also present were Aaron Ago and PRS president Datuk Joseph Salang Gandum.
