SEREMBAN: The Negri Sembilan government has agreed to buy a fleet of Toyota Camry's for all state executive council members, says Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun.

He said the new cars will replace the Honda Accords which were acquired more than five years ago.

"Apart from the exco members, the state Speaker, state secretary, state legal and financial officers and mufti will also be given a new car.

"We have placed an order for 16 Camrys and the delivery will be in stages," he told reporters after chairing the state exco meeting at Wisma Negri.

He said each Camry costs about RM206,000 which was the normal market price.

"We did not get any tax exemptions," he said, adding that the state excos and ex-officios were actually entitled to get a new car after 48 months.

Aminuddin said the decision to get the new cars was made because the cost to maintain the older fleet was high.

"The cost to maintain them was high and we could not afford it.

"That is why we eventually decided to get the new cars," he said.

Asked if the Hondas would be auctioned off, Aminuddin said the previous exco members would be given the right to acquire them first.

"Those who used the cars previously will be given priority to buy them. They will have to pay a certain amount for the vehicle," he added.

The Hondas were acquired in 2018 and delivered to the exco members and ex-officios in September of the same year.
