14 suspected secret society members, including ringleader, arrested in Sabah

KOTA KINABALU: Police have detained 14 people believed to be members of a secret society with suspected links to the notorious Double Seven gang, including its ringleader, at Inanam Point near here.

The suspects, aged 22 to 49, were arrested during "Ops Cantas" held on Jalan Tuaran at 10.10pm on Wednesday (May 8).

Sabah Criminal Investigation Department (CID) chief Senior Asst Comm Azmi Abd Rahim said his men from the Anti-Vice, Gambling and Secret Societies (D7) Division made the arrest with the help of police from the Inanam station.

"The group had elements of the Double Seven gang, which was listed as an illegal society in 2013," said SAC Azmi when contacted on Saturday (May 11).

He said they seized a toy gun imitating a C15 pistol, a meat cleaver, as well as a samurai sword in the operation.

"We also seized 20 stickers bearing the group's logo, membership cards, mobile phones and four vehicles," he said.

SAC Azmi said that based on an initial probe, the group is believed to have some 100 members in Sabah.

He said the suspects and seized items have been brought to the city police station for further investigations under the Societies Act 1966.
