PETALING JAYA: The goals are flowing again for Sabah and the Rhinos are sharpening their horns for more as they aim to end their Super League campaign on a high note.
The 5-1 thrashing of Police at the Likas Stadium on May 2 was a timely booster as the Borneo outfit eye handsome wins in their last two games to secure at least a top-eight finish.
It has been a difficult season for Sabah, who had finished third for three straight years but now sit 10th in the standings with 20 points from 22 matches.
Their Spanish coach Juantorres Garrido believes two more wins could significantly improve their position.
Sabah will travel to Brunei next on May 9 before a home fixture with Terengganu on May 15.
Both fixtures, however, present stern challenges. The Turtles are now fifth with 33 points, with Brunei eighth on 23 points.
Garrido said the dominant display against Police has given his players renewed belief in a season where they have struggled with their finishing.
“We played more vertically, more directly and with greater intensity in the opponent’s half,” said Garrido.
“The players had a different feeling compared to earlier in the season, when we were perhaps too fatigued due to the tight schedule.’
“Now, it’s about carrying that positive feeling into the final two games.”
