Copter tragedy: Three women among the 10 killed

LUMUT: The bodies of the ten crew members, including three women, in the naval helicopter collision have been identified and will be sent to the Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital in Ipoh for post-mortem.

Perak police chief Comm Datuk Seri Mohd Yusri Hassan Basri said the bodies had been retrieved and were currently at the naval base hospital here.

"Their families have been informed.

"They involve the crew from the Naval base in Lumut and Kota Kinabalu," he told reporters at the base here on Tuesday (April 23).

Comm Yusri added that more information on the victims would be revealed later by the Navy.

"The investigation is being led by the Navy, with assistance from the Fire and Rescue Department and police," he said.

The seven of the 10 victims flew on the AgustaWestland AW139, namely:

1. Cmdr Muhammad Firdaus Ramli

2. Lt Cmdr Wan Rezaudeen Kamal Wan Zainal Abidin

3. Lt Cmdr Mohammad Amirulfaris Mohamad Marzukhi

4. Warrant Officer II Muhammad Faisol Tamadun

5. Warrant Officer II Noorfarahmi Mohd Saedy

6. Petty Officer Noor Rahiza Anuar

7. Laskar Kelas I Joanna Felicia anak Rohna

On the Eurocopter Fennec were:

1. Cmdr Muhamad Anir Mohamad

2. Lt Sivasutan Thanjappan

3. Warrant Officer II Mohd Shahrizan Mohd Termizi

The two naval helicopters collided and crashed during training at the naval base's stadium in Lumut, Perak on Tuesday.

A video of the incident showed one of the helicopters clipping the tail rotor of the other aircraft before the two crashed into the ground.

The two helicopters involved were a Eurocopter Fennec and an AgustaWestland AW139.

The AgustaWestland AW139 crashed on the stairs at the TLDM stadium while the Eurocopter Fennec crashed into the swimming pool in the sports complex.
