Two killed, three seriously injured in accident near Kota Marudu


KOTA KINABALU: Two women were killed after the four-wheel drive vehicle they were rammed onto a mound before turning turtle along Jalan Kampung Gana in Kota Marudu on Monday (April 15).

The victims, identified as Doyut Nanu, 58, and Somineh Engkagang, 17, succumbed to their injuries in the 1.50pm incident.

The accident also left three others, aged 85, 65 and 27 years old, including the driver, seriously injured. They were rushed to Kota Marudu Hospital for immediate medical attention.

It is learnt that all victims are related, and were on their way back to Kampung Gana from Kota Marudu town.

Kota Marudu OCPD Supt Zairolnizal Ishak said initial investigation revealed that the driver had lost control of the vehicle before hitting the mound, overturned and landed on a cement drain by the roadside.

“The two deceased were pronounced dead at the scene, while three others suffered serious injuries and were rushed to the hospital,” he said in a statement .

He said no other victims or vehicles were involved in the incident, adding that the case will be investigated under Section 41(1) Road Transport Act 1987.
