Three nabbed for robbing convenience store in Kota Kinabalu suburb


KOTA KINABALU: Three local men have been arrested just over 12 hours after allegedly robbing a convenience store in Inanam here.

The suspects are aged between 27 and 29 and were arrested by a team from the Sabah police headquarters Criminal Investigation Department between 4pm and 5.30pm on Saturday (April 13).

State CID chief Senior Asst Comm Azmi Abd Rahim said the suspects, armed with meat cleavers, robbed the convenience store at 3.15am.

Two of them fled in a car with RM450 cash.

“The two were arrested behind the Centre Point shopping mall at around 4pm. We seized a few items from them believed to have been used in the robbery,” SAC Azmi said on Sunday (April 14).

The third suspect was detained about an hour later in front of the Kota Kinabalu International Airport, he added.

Initial investigations found that one suspect had a previous drug conviction, SAC Azmi said.

Another suspect had 10 drug, theft and housebreaking offences on his criminal record, while the third had five drug and housebreaking offences.

It is learnt the trio are all jobless and have been remanded for investigation under Sections 395 and 397 of the Penal Code for gang robbery and armed robbery respectively, and face a jail term of up to 20 years, fine and whipping if convicted.
