DOE shuts down four premises in Johor during special ops

ISKANDAR PUTERI: The Department of Environment (DOE) has shut down four premises here, while 30 others have been given compounds for failing to comply with the Environmental Quality Act 1974.

Johor health and environment committee chairman Ling Tian Soon said the compound was issued under the department's special operation dubbed ‘Ops Gempur Raya 2024’.

“This operation is targeted at premises that have a record of low compliance with the Environmental Quality Act 1974 and have always received enforcement action from the DOE.

“The operation started on Monday (April 1) and ended on Thursday (April 4). A total of 50 inspections have been conducted statewide during this period.

“During this operation, we issued 42 field citations, four stop work orders, 30 compound notices worth RM2,000 each, and 15 instruction notices,” he added.

He said this when met by reporters after conducting a sampling inspection of a wastewater treatment plant in Southern Industrial Logistics Clusters (SILC) Industrial Park here on Thursday.

All of the samples collected will be brought to the Chemistry Department to be tested and identified for any environmental violations, he added.
