More than 10 million Malaysians register with Padu as deadline looms

PETALING JAYA: As the deadline looms today, a staggering number of over 10 million individuals have registered with the Central Database Hub (Padu).

“As of March 30, 2024, 12.30pm, the total number of individuals with updated information is 10.03 million out of the 30.08 million recorded in the Padu system based on administrative data sources,” Padu announced on its official Facebook page yesterday.

The Economy Ministry had earlier reported a spike in Padu registration in the last few days leading up to the deadline.

“Even though there are some negative undercurrents among online users due to not understanding the issue or those purposely trying to find publicity, Malaysians in general are not affected.

“The proof is that 600,000 Malaysians on March 29 registered online or at physical counters,” the ministry said.

It also urged those who have yet to register to do so immediately before the deadline so that they will not miss out on any targeted subsidies from the government in the future.

Padu registration at physical counters will open until 5pm today, while online registration at https://www.padu.gov.my will be available until 11.59pm the same day.

The government is targeting a 50% registration rate by the deadline.

On Wednesday, Economy Minister Rafizi Ramli was reported as saying that the low number of registrations on Padu might affect the implementation of targeted subsidies.

Rafizi added that if the registration exercise does not end on March 31 as scheduled, the government could not move forward on the targeted subsidies plan.

Last month, Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil assured that no data breach had been detected in the Padu system.

“The government guarantees that data is secure,” said Fahmi.
