Family of five caught in water surge while fishing, mother and daughter feared drowned

PETALING JAYA: A woman and her daughter are feared to have drowned in a water surge in a river in Seri Kembangan, Selangor, this afternoon.

Selangor Fire and Rescue Department assistant director (Operations) Ahmad Mukhlis Mokhtar said on Sunday (March 30) that the Indonesian family of five were fishing in Kota Perdana when the water level rose.

The family consisted of a husband and wife, and their three children (two boys and one girl).

“The operation commander received word from the father that his wife and three children were believed to have drowned.

“At around 5.18pm, the public found one of the boys, aged 9, safe. At around 7.01pm, the body of a child, aged 10, was found around 1km away from where they fell, and health ministry officials confirmed his death,” he said.

Search and rescue operations are still ongoing to locate the missing wife and female child.
