Man participating in Banting funeral procession arrested for setting off firecrackers


SHAH ALAM: Police have arrested a man, who was taking part in a funeral procession, for setting off firecrackers on a road in Banting, Selangor.

Kuala Langat police chief Supt Ahmad Ridhwan Mohd Nor @ Saleh said the 28-year-old workshop assistant was arrested at around 3.30pm in Banting.

The added that the suspect later tested positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine.

He said the suspect, was part of the procession along with several other motorcyclists, stopped vehicles and set off some firecrackers.

"The man is currently detained at the Banting police station.

"The suspect was issued three summonses for traffic offences," he said here on Thursday (March 28).

He added that the suspect has a record of criminal and narcotics cases.

Supt Ahmad Ridhwan said police are tracking down two more suspects involved.

He said the case is being investigated under section 8 of the Explosives Act 1957, which provides for imprisonment of up to seven years, or a fine of RM10,000, or both, if convicted.

The police also opened two investigation papers for narcotics offences (drug use) under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, he said. – Bernama
