PJ cops nab man over spate of car break-ins in Kelana Jaya

PETALING JAYA: A man has been detained by the police in connection with a spate of car break-ins in Kelana Jaya.

Petaling Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Shahrulnizam Ja'afar said the suspect is in his 20s and was detained at Taman Putra Damai at about 12.49pm on Friday (March 22).

"We recovered various stolen items including electronic items, a mobile phone, and 11 Touch'N Go cards.

"We believe the suspect is involved in several car break-in cases in Kelana Jaya," he told a press conference at the PJ police headquarters on Tuesday (March 26).

The suspect has a criminal record with four prior drug offences, he said.

"We believe he has been active for about a month," he added.

In another case, two foreign men and a foreign woman were detained in connection with several snatch theft cases in the district, ACP Shahrulnizam said.

"We initially detained the two men at the side of the road in Kelana Jaya at 6am on March 17.

"Both suspects on a motorcycle attempted to escape by ramming into a police motorcycle.

"However, they were thwarted and successfully detained," he said.

Several items were seized including helmets, shoes, jewellery and mobile phones, ACP Shahrulnizam said.

"Further investigation led to the arrests of the foreign woman on the same day.

"She was the go-to person for the two suspects to pawn stolen items," he said.

The suspects often targeted those leaving their homes for work in the wee hours of the morning, he said.

"The successful arrests of the suspects were due to cooperation from the public.

"We hope the public will continue to supply relevant information to the police in our efforts to curb crime," he said.
