Man arrested over offensive posts on FB


PETALING JAYA: A man has been arrested for allegedly posting insulting comments on social media regarding the recent socks issue.

Bukit Aman CID director Comm Datuk Seri Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain said the 35-year-old Facebook user was arrested in Cheras on March 20.

“The police confirm the arrest of the local man over investigations into a post regarding the sale of socks bearing the word ‘Allah’ in a KK Super Mart that insulted Islam,” he said.

He added that the suspect has since been remanded until March 24.

“The case is still in its investigation phase.

“We advise the public to be smart and responsible social media users, and to avoid posting any statements that could affect public harmony and peace, especially in issues relating to 3R (race, religion and royalty),” Comm Mohd Shuhaily said in a statement yesterday.

A series of posts by the FB user had gone viral following his comments on the issue.

He later apologised in a video posted on Facebook, asking for forgiveness from the public.
