Lau’s ‘The Movie Emperor’ flops at the box office

IT appears that veteran actor Andy Lau’s star power was not enough to save The Movie Emperor after both its initial and subsequent screenings opened far below its competitors, reported China Press.

The film, which was screened for a second time on March 15, recorded a box office of only 2.45 million yuan (RM1.6mil) on its first day.

It was far outstripped by other films such as Remember Me, The Pig, The Snake and The Pigeon and Dune: Part 2.The movie suffered a loss as the total box office since its first screening during Chinese New Year was only 86.83 million yuan (RM56.95mil) but the production budget was 260 million yuan (RM170mil).

The Movie Emperor is a satirical comedy directed by Ning Hao and starring Lau. It tells a story of a has-been Hong Kong film star who makes a comeback film with a major director to regain his popularity.

> A food delivery rider in China suffered serious injuries after plunging several floors down an empty lift shaft, reported China Press.

The incident, which occurred in Zhejiang province on March 12, was captured on CCTV.

In the footage, a man dressed in a high-visibility jacket and helmet carrying two bags of food was seen stepping onto a poorly lit floor.

Unfortunately, there were no signs or barriers to indicate the lift was under construction.

Unaware of the danger ahead, the rider stepped into the shaft and fell three floors down at approximately 6.12pm.

The video went viral on social media, with many Internet users expressing concern for the rider.

According to the police, the man suffered spinal injury.

> A teenager in Vietnam’s Hai Duong province succumbed to injuries from a laptop explosion, reported Sin Chew Daily.

The accident happened on March 6 when the 13-year-old was doing his homework.

Without warning, the laptop exploded, causing severe injuries to his upper torso, limbs, and eyes.

He was rushed to hospital, where doctors had attempted to save his life by amputating his left arm and removing his eyes.

According to local reports, the teenager had used a second-hand laptop provided by the school due to funding constraints.
