SAR ongoing for two missing fishermen in Lahad Datu waters

KOTA KINABALU: Two men have been reported missing while fishing in waters off Lahad Datu over the weekend.

Sabah Fire and Rescue Department assistant director of operations Hamsa Isnurdini said they were informed about the matter at 6.47am on Monday (March 11).

He said Amran Kalu, 45, and Jufli Sahuddin, 43, were reported to have left their homes on Saturday (March 9), but failed to return home the next day.

"Their families tried to contact them on Sunday (March 10) but could not reach them," he said in a statement.

Hamsa said their last known location was close to Lautan Membatu, Pulau Gaya and Pulau Bait in Lahad Datu.

A search and rescue (SAR) operation is being mounted and updates would be provided from time to time, he said.

Hamsa urged anyone with information on the missing men’s whereabouts to alert the authorities immediately.
