LTAT, Felda could face action

PUTRAJAYA: Action can be taken against those involved if it is proven that there were wrongdoings behind the huge losses suffered by the Federal Land Development Authority (Felda) and the Armed Forces Fund Board (LTAT), says Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

The Prime Minister has now ordered both agencies to explain the losses reported in the Auditor-General’s Report. They have been given two weeks to do so.

Anwar said that once the reports are in, the Cabinet would discuss the matter.“We want to look through and identify any weaknesses. Then, they can be corrected. If the findings require action to be taken, we will do it,” he said after performing Friday prayers yesterday.

Asked if there is a need to set up a special committee to look into the losses recorded by Felda and LTAT, Anwar said it is more important now to study the A-G’s Report and to hear the agencies’ explanation.

Felda suffered losses of RM1bil in 2022 and a net loss of RM0.545bil in 2021, according to the A-G’s Report.

The A-G’s Report also found that LTAT has suffered huge losses, with its reserves in the negative range of RM376mil in 2020 and RM258mil in 2021. In 2022, the figure was RM338mil.

The Public Accounts Committee has also summoned the LTAT to answer for the losses.
